Utterly reliable source: Statutory managers to be allocated to schools on Monday, 21 November
The really significant point is that the day for allocating these to schools is Monday, 21 November, the Monday before the election. John Key has okayed the move.... more

Tolley backing down - ministry source
The situation now is that the ministry is set to back down. It has informed its staff that ‘duress declaration’ schools ‘will be subject to some regular reporting on the progress that they are making on implementing national standards.’ No reference was made to a statutory intervention of any kind. But this is typically ambiguous. That is because the only way the ministry can enforce ‘regular reporting’ is with some form of statutory intervention.... more

Tolley suckered
On Tuesday, the ministry was all over my web site. I have learnt as a result of experience that this often occurs around the time of the ministry making a move. I rang up a friend and said something’s on.
Late on Friday afternoon, I heard what – Aranga a small school near Dargaville had received a phone call informing the principal that on Monday a Limited Statutory Manager (LSM) was going to be appointed. I learnt on enquiry that the principal was Myles Ferris.... more

Wednesday was a good day in the fight against NS
It is a huge opportunity to finish national standards off. Skilfully used, I predict that a significant number of further schools will decide to join the ethically-compliant.... more

Kelvin, we wondered what the hell you were on about
Because teachers and principals could sense I was somehow on their side, I had a fair amount of support in a personal way, but there was considerable mystification as to my actual purposes and motivation – as a leading consultant now, but a principal then, recently said to me: ‘Kelvin, we wondered what the hell you were on about.’... more
